Burgeoning bilateral ties between China and the Liberian Government is bearing tangible fruits, with the former offering to build three secondary schools in the country equipped with modern laboratories and libraries. Making the disclosure following a cabinet meeting over the weekend, Information Minister Dr. Laurence Bropleh said the schools would be built in Swen Mecca District, Bomi County, Jacob Town community on Paynesville Somalia Drive and in Soul Clinic community also in Paynesvill. Paynesville is a densely-populated suburb of Monrovia that has only one public school (Paynesville Community High School). Population growth in that suburb has been spiraling, with new communities sprouting as a result of many people migrating from rural communities. Bropleh revealed that the Chinese would be responsible for the construction of the schools. The construction of the schools comes at a time Government is keen on enforcing a free and compulsory primary education across the country. Since the inception of this academic semester, there has been public outcries that government attempts to enforce compulsory primary education may experience a setback given the inadequacy of school buildings and teachers that has been compounded by a surging number of students. The Chinese government's gesture at this crucial time in the history of the country, educational analysts say, will go a long way in cutting down on the illiteracy rate on the one hand while creating a wholesome functioning society on the other.
