2021-05-02 00:01

On April 29, 2021, the Chinese Embassy in Liberia and the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), the ruling party of Liberia, jointly held a roundtable discussion on party building. H.E. Ren Yisheng, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, and Hon. Mulbah K Morlu, CDC National Chairman attended the event and delivered keynote speeches respectively. Around 30 people, including Hon. Garbla Williams, CDC Vice Chairman, other CDC senior party members, as well as Defense Attache Senior Colonel Han Xiao, Economic and Commercial Counselor Li Jiang and other diplomats from the embassy were present.

Ambassador Ren said in his speech that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Over the past 100 years, the CPC has fulfilled its original aspiration and mission of "seeking happiness for the people and rejuvenation for the nation", united and led the people of all ethnic groups across the country to fight hard and won great victories in revolution, construction, and reform. Not long ago, President Xi Jinping announced to the world that China has won an all-round victory in the fight against poverty. 770 million people have been completely lifted out of absolute poverty, which is an important contribution to the world's poverty alleviation.

Ambassador Ren elaborated on the CPC's party building principles and practical experiences, introduced China's achievements in fighting the Covid-19 epidemic, resuming work and production, and actively carrying out international cooperation in the fight against the epidemic. He lauded the comprehensive cooperative partnership between China and Liberia under the framework of the "Belt and Road" Initiative and "Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development", and emphasized that China is ready to work with Liberia to promote their friendly and pragmatic cooperation in various fields.

Ambassador Ren refuted the false accusations by some Western countries about China's aid projects involving "data collection" and causing "debt traps" in Africa. He also clarified issues concerning the "Decision of the National People's Congress(NPC) on Improving the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Electoral System" and shared the development achievements of China's Xinjiang by refuting the groundless accusation of some Western politicians and the media.

Chairman Morlu extended his warm congratulations on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, and highlighted the long-time friendship between the CDC and the CPC. He said that CDC hopes to learn from the experience of the CPC, deepen pragmatic cooperation between Liberia and China in the fields of national governance and infrastructure construction, and continue to push forward the relations between the two parties and the two countries. Chairman Morlu also reiterated that the CDC and the Liberian government will firmly adhere to the one-China policy.

Participants conducted interactive discussions on issues such as party building and China-Liberia friendly and pragmatic cooperation.
