Chinese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Ren Yisheng pays courtesy call to the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Liberia Hon. Dr. Chambers and meets other senior officials of Liberian government

Recently, Chinese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Ren Yisheng has paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Liberia, Hon. Bhofal Chambers, Minister of State Without Portfolio, Hon. Trokon A. Kpui, Health Minister, Hon. Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, and Legal Advisor to the President, Hon. Archie Bernard.

When meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Chambers, Ambassador Ren conveyed to him the cordial greetings and best wishes of H.E. Li Zhanshu,Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and highly appreciated the bill specially adopted by the Liberian Parliament to support the One-China policy and said that China is willing to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Liberia in various fields, including legislation. Ren also introduced the law of the People’s Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the Hongkong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) adopted recently by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.

Hon. Chambers asked Ambassador Ren to convey his cordial greetings to Chairman Li Zhanshu, welcomed Ambassador Ren to take up his new post in Liberia, and sincerely thanked China for its great contribution to Liberia’s post-war reconstruction process, especially for its timely and generous assistance after the outbreak of Ebola and COVID-19. He emphasized that Liberia respects China's sovereignty and firmly adheres to the One-China principle, and Liberia looks forward to making joint efforts with China to further strengthen the communication between the legislative bodies.

During the meeting with Minister of State Without Portfolio Hon. Trokon A. Kpui, the two sides exchanged views on strengthening telecommunication modernization, people-to-people exchanges, and poverty reduction between the two countries.

When meeting with Health Minister Hon. Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, the two sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in the medical and health fields between the two countries and jointly overcoming the COVID-19 epidemic. Ren also asked for Liberian side’s facilitation and cooperation for the embassy’s implementation of remote nucleic acid detection measures for Chinese citizens who are to fly to China. Minister Jallah sincerely thanked the Chinese government for its valuable support in fighting the epidemic and said that the Ministry of Health is willing to actively cooperate with the Chinese Embassy in the remote nucleic acid detection for Chinese citizens who are to fly to China.

During the meeting with the President’s Legal Advisor, Hon. Bernard, the two sides exchanged views on cooperation in power grid construction, hydro-power, and solar power generation.

Besides, Ambassador Ren also called on H.E. Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to exchange views on strengthening China-Liberia friendly cooperation in the new era.
